Late last week, the US Supreme Court overturned the Roe vs. Wade ruling. Now, each state will decide whether or not to allow for legal abortions. Several states have trigger laws, which means that effective immediately, abortions are outlawed. Our hearts are breaking for women and people with ovaries in the United States who have lost autonomy over their bodies, their decisions for their future, and their healthcare.
We’ve gathered some actions that you can take even if you’re outside of the US:
- Organize a call or email blitz: reach out to your representatives and tell them how important reproductive rights are to you. Find your federal representative here https://www.ourcommons.ca/members/en and provincial here https://www.elections.on.ca/en/voting-in-ontario/electoral-districts.html.
- Spread the word about Plan C https://www.plancpills.org/ and AidAccess.org, organizations that will mail abortion-inducing medication anywhere in the U.S.
- Set up a monthly donation to an organization that provides healthcare clinic access, abortion and miscarriage support such as INeedAnA.com or a hyper local clinic which can be found here https://apiaryps.org/pso-list
- Provide support for organizations like ReproLegalHelpline (https://www.reprolegalhelpline.org/get-involved/) which provides free legal help to those who have questions about the reproductive law in their state.
- Donate to organizations like the M+A hotline (https://www.mahotline.org/) which provides a way to call or text to get support about miscarriages and abortions.
Abortions are healthcare and we will fight to ensure people in Canada can access the healthcare they need. We will continue to provide health education, affordable access to birth control options (both proactive and reactive) and maintaining reproductive freedom in Canada for all women and people born with ovaries.
Sending so much love to our American neighbours.
